This photo is one i took on the canal near my home. It shows this stretch of canal as it looks now. The second photo is one i got from a site that shows my hometown as it used to look. :-)Here's the new.

Quite a contrast. It is good to see the old industrial areas recycled into new, modern residences and shops. I see a lot of this in the US. It certainly is a lot better than the eysores left behind by our predecessors.

Is that a lock in the foreground, with a human powered gate? I am familiar with locks and gates but never saw one like this.

All lochs are human powered here calr. They used to be the countries motorways. I agree with seeing the sites rejuvenated, but I would like them to keep the old buildings and not put up brand new expensive ones which are over priced.

Good contrast there Mark. You're lucky to find the same spot in the two photographs. Was that luck or planning?

Cal, you're right it is a lock. It's one of six locks on the canal in Blackburn. This is the Leeds to Liverpool canal and it has 92 locks along it's 127 mile course. The white mill in the first photo is due for demolition soon to make way for more new houses. The mill has been there since 1852. There are a couple more photos of the canal on my website if you're interested.:-)

That was planning ferny, i wanted them for my website. I only live five minutes away from where these photos were taken, I've lived in this area of Blackburn all my life. :-)Check this link if you want to see an old canal building put to good use.

This is fantastic. I love series' like this, where you can see old and new in the exact same place.

And, ferny, I have to say Susie still looks striking in my hat and her blingbling. She never ceases to make me smile. :-)
