Ok, here's one of the rare WHOLE sunflower photos I have. I much prefer closeups of smaller bits of them. Not that there's really anything wrong with this photo other than a bit of overexposure, it's something to play with. Have at it!

Another fantastic picture to start with - this one really needs nothing. let's see how I can ruin it... :-)

This is what came to my head first - but it's not what I really see for this (I like the original much better). I'm going to rework it tonight before the crimp in my neck becomes permanent! :-)

(and I really should have cloned out the boogars on the petals).

I'm not really happy with this, either. This photo looks best, to me, as you have it. Things that I see in my head don't look good in actuality, on this photo. :-)

No no no... The original is bad. It's ordinary. I guess I'll have to post my better ones now...
I'll throw this small change out for now :-)

Here's another.
I cropped it, rotated 180, extracted the flower from the background and filled with black.

I hope this fits within the criteria of the challenge. When I saw the flower, the strong highlights made it kinda look like a painting that wasn't quite finished. I know I did a pretty bad job of extracting the flower from the background, but I hope you get the idea.

Photo_mage,

Cool! I like that. Is that a built-in Photoshop filter, or did you do that by hand somehow?

These are all very nice! I like the flower in my hair - as well as the quarter-round shape of the cropped flower, and the faded to drawing. I would guess you made a new layer, applied an art filter to that layer, sandwiched a gradient layer between them, with a "fade to background" gradient? Or am I WAYYYYYY off? :-)
