If you look closely at these tracks you can see that they are bowed, warped and in overall terrible shape. You can see that many of the spikes are loose and there is some misalignment of rail sections.

Yet, believe it or not, these rails are in daily use. There is at least one lumber and timber train that passes by here every day. There are numerous freight operations each day. The steam loco that I posted a couple weeks ago was shot on this track!

So they're about as good as the tracks here then? That's part of the reason why the frequency of train accidents is going up. There will be a really big accident soon solely because the tracks either aren't maintained properly or because they're just not any good.

I see them in a different light...a nice metaphor on...
