Took this one morning while sitting on my sister-in-law's front porch. The bowl was on a table with a flowery print table cloth, to minimize the background detail, I did a Gaussian blur on the background with a fairly large aperture.

Oh, by the way; the mangoes were really good!!! :?

Comments?

hey man

nice work with the blur!

a couple tips to get it to look as real as possible!

if you select the background first, and cut and past it onto it's own layer, that keeps the fruit from blurring, andcausing the 'glow' effect here...

also, you'll want to have some of the table because that would've been in the DOF...

anyway, nice capture i gotta go grab a mango...i forget what they taste like!

nice picture and all but yeah, you did overdo it with the blurring. you should try gradual blurring.. front to back..
right now it looks like the plate is floating.

that being said, i love mangoes!!

OK I like the suggestions from both of you, I see where I got the halo effect around the mangoes, I selected them and promoted them to a new layer, rather than cut and paste. I've done a second go around with this one and reposted it here. This time I cut the mangoes and plate and pasted them to a new layer, then I selected a rectangle of the top half of the background with a wide feather (about 70 pixels), promoted it to a third layer and blurred that. It does look quite a bit better to me, What do you guys think?

Thanks again to the both of you for the suggestions
