Lysichitum americana or Pacific Skunk Cabbage. Taken on March 9th, 2005 at the Darlingtonia Natural Site north of Florence Oregon.

bill,

nice effort. i think you needed to get a little closer. try keeping the main subject focused and use blur on the rest- at least just a small amount to make the main focus come out. also it could use a little sharpening.

Getting closer was not possible. This is a Nature preserve and one must not go off the boardwalk to protect the plants. I was using the 18mm-70mm lens at 70mm. Exposure was 1/30s at f/4.5 which is the maximum aperture for this lens at that zoom setting. The flower, which is about 10" tall, was about 5 feet away... near the close limit for this lens.
