According to Selvin, this is a Parrot Beak Helconia. This was shot last Fall on the island of Kauai. You can see the color original in my Hawaii album posted in the travel forum.

Nikon D100, Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 lens, hand-held. Converted to grayscale in PSP9 and tweaked the histogram to get it they way I wanted it.

I like this shot, nice and bright and it appears to jump right out of the photo. Well done.

i agree, the light-on-dark tones work well!

cool looking flower too!

the black and white works well
