Where is this? It looks like a cave with a waterfall. The colors are super. Not as good a focus on the second as on the first(maybe the tripod moved)also on the second a serious hot spot in the upper right. The first is positively abstract, and very cool.

Suzan, can you explain what a hotspot is please? Or is that term I can look up somewhere?

These shots were pretty hard for me to do. I was trying to figure out the white balance for both neon and incandescent. I was having a hard time getting it right. The second picture is also my first real try with my new telephoto.

It's not a cave, it is the outside of the aquarium here in town. Oh, also, I took most ofmy shots using s-mode to change the shutter speed myself, the second shot was with night mode. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with the focus (I wouldn't think so but I'm not sure). I'm still learning my camera's in and outs and the different settings. I'm now at f-stop in "the book".

very cool!

tough spot for white balance settings!

you did well with it though, it looks great..

a 'hotspot' is just where the whites are blown...or a spot of the picture that's overly bright...most of the time, the term is used for small portions of the picture..

she's talking about the top part of the neon lighting in the second one...

the softness 'may' be from the arperture (f/4 f/8 f/2.8...)

if the arperture was too large (small number) then the DOF wouldn't cover all of the picture...causing some to be soft..

if you used the night mode, or shutter speed, the cameras 'computer' probably set the arperture to a small number, to let in as much light as possible..

you did well here i love the blur of the waterin the first one!

oh, if you have any questions about manual settings, don't hesitate to drop me a PM, i'd be more than happy to help
