I was on a mission today. I was determined to, once and for all, take a picture ofthe backyardbirch tree that explains what I love about it. I must have at least a hundred photos of this tree, not oneof which shows its essential "birchiness." The heck with it, I thought. I've tried everything else, so why not try over-exposing this tricky tree? Finally, and by using incorrect exposure, I captured what I see in my birch tree. Granted, it's probably not how anyone else sees birch trees, but then you haven't met mine. Let me introduce you:

I'm not an easy one--I know this quite well. My style grows stranger with each day and, honestly, I can't stop the progression. At some point I started wanting to show something else in my pictures. You, I've noticed, have for a long time been drawn to light, seeming to see it as a substance all in itself. I keep seeing substance as insubstantial, as if the atoms and molecules are constantly rearranging themselves into new forms.

Vito, you just showed everyone how to properly post a remark on a photo that isn't to your taste. Isn't there a quote about "a child shall lead"?

Charlie, first I have to thank you. It's so pleasing when someone sees what you saw, isn't it?

The look of a painting is what grabbed me too. Other than dodging the distant branches to fade them a bit, this final version is little different from the originalraw capture. I'll have to play some more with increased exposure.

Hi Barbara,

I like the off- beat representation of this pic, & I think the different areasof stress work well, as do the different tonal colours. I also like the fact it's quite understated, but thoughtful - a bit magical. (Birch trees are very special.)

Thank you, Canna! It helps when other people don't mind that I'm a bit weird.

(What does "abw" stand for?)

Shows you how old I am. I've finally learned LOL and IMHO, but much more than that and I'm left drooling in my rocking chair.
