This photo is from last summer but it's one of my favorite tree shots. It is a Lodgepole Pine growing next to Hauser Lake at 8900 feet in Beartooth Pass, Wyoming. It's a tough place for a tree to earn a living but this one is doing ok. The lake was still frozen on June 15th, 2004.

tough lighting...

but i love the composition, the blue sky, and the 'towering' feeling given by the tree

The lonely sentinel stands guard over his lost friends, peering out at the vast lake that divides him from the others. How long before his time.
