I was experimenting here past midnight inside with custom white balance with my e550 after reading this months first challange, as I haven't messed with it much. I eventually used the orange light on my flash memory card reader as the white, then took a picture of my cat. Enjoy. This is not edited. :-)

The blue cat! Did you point the lens at the light on the card reader or a reflection of the light on some object. If you used the light directly, was the room dark? How far from the light was the camera?

For those reading this, it might be a good idea to clearly describe your setup if working with manual white balance.

Nice first try. Let's see more.

Wow! I'm fairly sure I couldn't do this at all with my camera. Are we looking at a white cat surrounded by white?

Okay, I pointed the camera at the orange light directly, such that about 30-50% of the screen had the orange in it. The room had a standard light bulb on. I then took a picture of the cat. The cat is white/shaded silver with green eyes, the tile is white, the wall is white, and the door is white. The rug he was is sitting on is brown, tan, and other neutral colors. Let me know if you any other questions on this picture.

awww, she's blue...in color and in mood!

it's a bit crazy, but the "off" white balance does suit the look he/she has on his/her face!

nice example :-D
