Set the WB on my camera to the on camera flash and took these in a creekbed in filtered shade.

I am assuming you didn't use flash in either shot. My camera has a flash WB setting but I haven't tried it. The light from a flash is somewhere in the blue range. That explains why the picture taken with the flash WB setting has more red tones in it. I like both shots but I think I like the first one the best.

I decided the pic was a wee bit dark so lightened it up a little. And yes Calr is definately right the flash is blue and bright so the WB for flash is darker and more into the warm tones.
