Okay, I got to ask.

Do you carry the camera with you to the fire sites? Are you an investigator/inspector or a fire-fighter?

No offence meant but if you're shooting the pictures who's left holding the hose?

Jeepers this one is seriously scarey. Dale is a firefighter and I don't know who is holding the hose, I just want to know where he got his asbestos camera cover.

I would have to agree there too. Most camera bodies are plastic and aren't most of the optics too? TFoto or not, inside that space everything would melt.

Most plastics begin to deteriate at about 250-300 degrees.. In a fire as we all know heat rises so the zones are as follows.. Base to 3 feet about 100-150 degrees 3 feet to 6 feet 150-600 degrees, 6 feet to 10 feet 600- 1200 degrees..I am carefull where my cameras go and am aware of the heat ... I wrap them in Nomex (a fire retarder) have never had a problem with the Nikons.. I had a Canon that did not fare so well.. any way that is another story.. Dale
