This is one of the first photo I took when I got my new *ist DS. I saved it in my computer and did not look at it till this challenge got me thinking about it. This got me thinking that I probably have others I should look at to see if they also may fit the challenge.

I am surprised that thing still floats. And to think it probably hauls oil in and out of our major ports. It looks like the kayakers are not bothered by it. Maybe they are towing it!:lol::lol:

Nice shot.

I absolutely love this shot - it reminds me of a scene from some comedy movie where the heroes suddenly looks behind themand yell "oh, crap!" (pardon me), then paddles to beat the band. I chuckle every time I look at this one :G:G:G

Even without the comedic value, the kayakers serve to illustrate the immense size of the ship (and vice versa).

If I remember I was taking a photo of the world. I turned around and noticed them passing the ship. As I watched them I got to thinking about how to take a photo of them. That is a good thing about paddlers is it give you time to think about the photo and I usually need to use that time. The ship is at dock getting loaded with grain. Some of these ships look brand new and some look like the only thing holding them together is the rust. This one defiantly has some character. I put a long lens on to make the ship look bigger and framed it so the dock is outside of the frame. That is one of the good things about still photos, you can tell a story that is different then what was going on at the time. In my mind I did turn it around like the big ship was passing the paddlers. Now that you mention it is funny. After I took the photo I went back to the world photos and forgot about it.

This is a very kool shot, as a fellow kayaker when i first saw this i thought "OMG PADDLE FASTER!!" The middle kayaker has an interesting paddle, looks like a narrow wood version. Nice Capture.

Best regards,

Mag

Sorry for the crude edit, but I suspect this is what we were all hoping for.

With a bow wake like that, the ship would probably have to be doing at least 40 kts! The poor kayakers don't have a chance. :G:G:G
