Like many guys who grew up in the Fifties, I was fascinated with cars. There was always a lot of "hoopla" every September when the new models were introduced. I've owned quite a few collectable-types but, unfortunately, didn't keep them long enough for them to appreciate in value.

Six years ago I happened to see a caravan of old cars on the frontage road of Interstate 20 in Texas. I followed them into a small town where they parked at the court house square. With my digital camera I photographed as many as I could.

Thus began my passion for capturing old cars with my camera. How many, you might ask? How about 28,500 and counting!

(BTW, "Colesmobiles" refers to my last name - Coles)

Along the way I began to experiment with manipulating my images in Corel PhotoPaint toproduce some interesting creations. Here's an example.

Another variation on the same theme (a 1947 Cadallac).

Well, you get the idea. Takes almost an hour to carefully mask out the car...then more time merging it with another background. So, quite time consuming.

Wow Walter!! This is terrific! Your postings are incredible and your description is a perfect explanation of the how and why of your passion.

I know what you mean about the old cars. I scream everytime my husband talks about the cars he bought as a teenager, for $50 and sold for the same. If only he kept a few.

Great work!! Amazing work!! Love your posting!

Rose

BTW....my husband knew the year and models of the first shots but wants to know if the last one is a '38 or '40 Packard.

Fantastic, Walter. If you read my final post to your patterns game with the woody, you now know what I was talking about. That series of woody pictures fits this challenge perfectly(e.g. double the mileage).

Great work with the manipulations.

Thanks for the kind words, folks.

Mommy, it itsn't a Packard. It's a 1947 Lincoln Continental convertible. Actually one of my all-time favorite cars.

Ready for another?
