This picture really bothers me. I came very close to deleting it.

First, where is the performance?

Second, the lady appears to have no pants or bottoms on. I copied the photo into PSP9 and enlarged and lightened it. Then I was able to see the fishnet stockings and the tiniest hint of a bikini bottom.

I see what the boy was looking at, now. He is not the only one looking. The man to the right seems to have more than a passing interest.

I'll leave the final judgement up to Selvin but I don't think this photo is appropriate for this forum. It is very suggestive.

I think these ladies would be honored knowing you thought they were being sexy! But they are older ladies who are performing in an American Flag day celebration in very conservative Orange County California.* The the woman to her right is her granddaughter fixing her tassle! I wish I had legs like them! But if you insist I'll call out the Anaheim Photo Police and have myself arrested! -Freida

Pretty tame compared to Frank Doorhof's naked women shots.

The second shot meets the challenge requirements. The first one doesn't.

I definately agree with Dave and Walter. The first shot perhaps could be in the funny photo section, 'cause it is pretty funny.

And VERY tame compared to Franks postings.

Theyare marching, and you could loosely call that performing. It would be interesting to see them twirl the flags or march in formation or something. It's Selvin's call on this one.

Thanks for posting it Freida! It's always interesting to see what goes on in other parts of the world.

Disneyland which is right down the street contends that a person who is dressed in a costume is always on stage. I prefer to take candid shots of performers.* I think in the first shot her audience was the young boy. Being dressed in a costume is a performance in itself. The instructions to this challenge say capture a performer doing their thing. Showing off her costume is just that. But I must say that I never thought it was going to be so*controversial! Kinda fun! Maybe we could have a challenge of women on the beach! Boy, have I got a picture that would blow Cal's top! he he Wanta see?*

Geez,

I'm away 24 hours and the natives get restless. All snickering aside about the lady's abbreviated costume, like Cal I am really looking for a performance and I don't see one.

Remember the phrase allegedly attributed to Sigmund Freud, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." Sometimes, buying a hot dog is simply just buying a hot dog.

Frank Sinatra walking up to hot dog stand to buy a hot dogis not a performance. It could have been be one,if there was an intention on the part of the performer to make it one. In the case of the Lady buying the hot dog, I haven't renewed my mind reading license for this year so the only evidence I have is what I see and whatI see isn't a performance.

While I am totally aware of the Shakespearean dictum, .."all's the world is a stage etc.." I would rather not get too metaphorical. Yes, we need to grant a lot of photographic license but let's not stretch things too much beyond the boundary of common sense.

The performancein this case is shown in the second shot because of the marching which I agree with Rose is performing. Also, given the setting, I think the first shot isn't unduly suggestive or risque.

Cheers
