This week's challenge had me puzzled

No thoughts came, my mind was muzzled

Then I saw it as I'm driving

Intersection I'm arriving

A man stepped out, held up a sign

Thought I at once, he will do fine

Tho ridiculed, its still a trade

A tidy sum he must have made

The tools? Some cardboard, Magic Marker

Such will do until its darker

But, by then he'll be afar

Drink his profits at a bar

I don't dare let my wife see these pictures. She would be furious that someone wasted time taking the photos. She is of the opinion that these people who panhandle at freeway ramps and major intersections are not homeless or downtrodden sould. She believes they are organized for the purpose of scamming people out of their money. I know of an instance where, instead of giving money to one of these people, they offered to buy the person a meal. The person absolutely refused.

Although the photo is good, the subject is extremely troubling.

Yes, every city has several legitimate places (charities) where homeless and indigent people can receive help -- providing that they are truly in need. Many of those you see panhandling are, as you said, part of an organized "scam" or simply addicts seeking an easy way to get their next drink or fix.

Unfortunately, we can't always tell, can we?

While the subject may elicit strong emotions, I felt that it fit the guidelines for the challenge.

Great picture! I was thinking of making a sign that reads: Will Work For A Higher Multimedia IQ! Or Smiles for Sale! or Extra Money On Hand? Give it to me!* or Wanted: Money for a New Lens!**
