I shot this last year but I just saw the same scene again about 20 minutes ago.

Cal, as others have commented, the pure black background adds to the impact of the shot. I know there's a logical answer, why are the bottom row of lights missing?

I'd have to go back and look but it is probably not in the exact same spot this year. Not sure if the base is hidden by tall grass or there is a very slight hill in front of the display. I shot from the street and I think the display was slightly above the street level. That's the best I can tell you without going back to look.

As for the dark background, the display was in a clear park-like area to the right of the house it belongs to. Consequently, no human structures to distract!
