Ignoring the obvious, there are a lot of circles in this photo. I think the lighting is great. I assume the red light allowed the DJ to see what he/she was doing without flooding white light out onto a darkened dance floor.

Now, I wonder if the LP record was actually being played or scratched for sound effects. I hate that sound because I know what it is doing to the LP. However, that sound effect has been in use since the early 1980's.

Ditto to what Cal said about the circles.

It's funny what gets to be entertainment. I can remember the scratchy sound of the needle over the record even when I was playing 78s back in the 50s. We all raced over to the record player to stop it because as Cal indicated, it meant we were destroying the record. Those days they had steel needles!

Like Cal I cringe when I hear the sound today.
