We have beautiful colors in our yard now with the new grass and azaleas - but I haven't figured out what to focus on yet. This photo looks flat, wouldn't you say?

You're right there does seem to be a lack of focus. Try the hammock from the side with the white azaleas and grass in the background. Don't know if that angle is even possible so pardon my ignorance.

The hammock is the first thing to grab my attention. It makes me think your focus is more on lazy summer afternoons in the sun instead of signs of spring.

I do agree that this photo lacks a center of attention. In that regard, it is more of a "snapshot" (is that word allowed here?). You need, as Selvin suggested, to try some different angles. Pick something in the yard as your focal point and then frame it with other objects in the yard such as trees or the hammock.

I think you capture many elements of Spring. The trees are green and the garden has many different flowers.I found thehammocka bit distractingas well. I do think that you could emphasize the flowers making them the definite primary element. Here's a quick crop and tunning done through Picasa . You can still tell that there is a hammock out there but the flowers definitely prevail. Hope you don't mind.
