Unfortunately much of the darkeness is an artifact of a reflecting surface that was used. The nature of that surface also seemed to add to the mystery of smoke and mirrors which I took to heart as a primary goal of the challenge.

I will add a photo I took working up to the entry I posted that is a bit lighter for the inquiring minds to chew on, but it may just add to the confusion as it includes more reflected objects. I will look forward to advice on approaches for lighting on a shot like this when I post the key photo.

If I did it again I would probably setup some artificial lighting and would find some way to use a tripod, which I had major logistical problems doing. I was relying on a sinking sun for light when I shot and my wife's patience seemed to be setting as well. The travails of an amateur.
