We currently have a 5D and a Digital Rebel. We started off with the Rebel and upgraded to the 5D not too long ago. We use the 5D for portrait work and some every day stuff and I was wanting to geta backup camera that is a little better than my Rebel. I was thinking of a 30D but now I started looking at the Rebel xti (400D) for the higher MP.

Does anybody have any opinions on this? I know the 30D has better build quality and a few other pluses as compared to the XTI, but the XTI costs a lot less.

an used 20D for around 500-600 is a better buy. There are few used 20Ds still under warrantly selling for 600 in many cities. May be check them. I even saw few 20D's at 600 dollros which are less than one year old with around 2000 shutters.

Good luck
