I'm looking for information for my mother who is intersted in moving into a DSLR camera, right now she has the EOS Rebel 2000 with the EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 II lens.
Which Canon DSLR camera would be at least equal to what she already has, and the is easy to use ( she is in her70's and travels overseas alot)

I thank everyone for their help in this matter

Since she already has a Rebel, she could stick with the Rebel. Currently Canon has 2 Digital Rebels out, one is the Rebel XT which has an 8 MP sensor and the other is the XTi that has a 10MP sensor. You can check the Rebel XT here: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_...s/rebelxt.html

Hopefully Steve will put up a review to the XTi soon. :-)

Both cameras are great. The XTi is the newest of the two which just came out a few weeks ago. The prices are also pretty close to each other and both are under $1000 with a lens included.

And all of her lenses from the SLR will work on the Digital Rebel DSLR's.

Which will be nice!

So I agree, the XT or the XTi should work very well for her. She should realize, though, that she'll need a fairly powerful computer and lots of disk space. She'll find she'll take a lot of pictures once she is freed from the cost of film.

Digital Rebel XT or XTi. Both are small and easy to travel with as SLR/DSLR cameras goes.
