I have a canon xt and want to upgrade from my 15" dell monitor.

I've spent several hours reading threads about monitors. Most are pretty expensive. I'm on a budget and need something under the $300.00 range. I dont do any gaming and just editing photos of friends and family. I thought I had it narrowed down to the Samsung 226 BW and the 22" viewsonic but the more I read the more confused I get. I don't need to go any bigger than 22".

Can anyone tell me what the best bang for my buck would be when it comes to editing my photos?

Thanks Much!!!

Overall, IMHO the 226BW is, perhaps, the best bang for the buck in the 22" size.

When my older costly color-editing CRT gave up the ghost recently, Iresearched several locally available reasonably-priced LCD panels and went back and forth between the 226BW and the 245BW. I looked at both models driven from the same computer using my own photos on PhotoShop CS2.

When you take your time, use your own eyes to compare, fiddle with settings, etc., you can make a better decision than reading all the different reviews with different opinions and comments on dates, versions, sub-manufacturers, etc.

I found very little difference when calibrated so I splurged for the larger size, but the 226BW was no slouch and I can highly recommend it for tight budgets.

I have a 226BW, and I love it. I must say however that I have been unable to calibrate it with Adobe Gamma.

The first test where the grey box and the grey lines should "match" just never matches.

The colour on these cheap LCD's will always be a bit off. But if you are not using it for professional reasons, it is a great monitor.
