Default Canon EF Owners, please read this

When I purchased my 10D, I also purchased an EF 24-85 F/3.5-4.5 USM. After using this lens for two weeks, I'm finding my images at full zoom very soft, even when using a tripod. Has anybody else experienced this? I'm thinking of exchanging it for the EF 28-135 IS. Has anyone done any comparisons between these two EF lenses?

The EF 28-135 IS USM is definetly a better lens, but it has its fault too:

The EF 24-85mm at full zoom is 1/2 stop faster than the 28-135mm. I see no different in the performances of these two lenses since the later sets at full zoom 135mm is slower but with IS to compensate. Originally, Canon sets soft image on the 10D at the mfg, did you try to increase or adjust the sharpness in post processsing using PS 7.0 or elements, if not, you may want to give it a try.

In short the EF24-85mm is a fine lens...

Looking around a bit, I read generaly good things about it (including that its better than the 28-135.) Could you post a 100% crop of a picture you consider to be soft?

tuanokc@hotmail.com is right, the 10D is set to a lower sharpness setting than the 300D (and non SLR consumer grade cameras.) So if that is what you are used to it could effect your feelings about the lens (and camera.)
