Maybe you're inadvertently turning the large dial on the back causing the exposure compensation to increase.

I have no idea at all what might cause something like that and certainly not something I've experienced myself with any of my Canon kit. I take it we are talking all shots in all conditions, not just when using flash or something? I am very interested to hear what Canon say about the cause as it is a little different to the norm. Hope it is back with you soon. |

Sounds like a heating problem in the light sensor. That is definitely a factory service center job.

i got my 50d back yesterday(really quick turnaround) this is what they said ."it was found that the adjustment of the part was incorrect the flash exposure was incorrect from time to time shutter" i have no idea what that means but the repair was "speed/exposure/e-shutter/e-ttl were adjusted". sounds like the exposure wasn't working correctly and they fixed it. i am not real sure they didn't just send me a different camera. i left the strap on the camera and the strap sent back was off the camera and looks new and it just don't feel the same even tho they are the same style. bottom line i got it back fast and it appears to work pretty good.

I have known them to replace cameras. Did you check the serial numbers? But I also know that they ask that you to remove all accessories. So they could have removed the strap and just given you a new one.
