Hope you have fun with it. As for the recommendation to turn off IS on a monopod.. not really. On a tripod yes. You will still have movement using a monopod that IS would help in reducing. Also I think the 70-200 2.8 IS has two IS modes. One is for panning which you can use on a tripod and monopod.
