Default Help please deciding on budget EOS ??

Hi all,
I've recently posted a thread about what budget DSLR to buy - well, I've got a bit closer by deciding to go with Canon. This has partly been influenced by me finding some older EF lenses stashed at a relatives' house so now I need to talk bodies ( ooh err missus ! ).

I'm on a budget - basically, 300 absolute tops and I would prefer to buy new. There are quite a few bodies ( or kits, if I find one cheap enough ) to choose from, that much is clear. I've see loads of 300/350/400/450/1000D in my price range with and without lenses, my question is which one ? Am I better buying the latest model or maybe a refurb better / older model ? I have found a 38-76mm EF lens already at my relatives house and there maybe more - any particular body better to buy with legacy lenses in mind ??? Thanks all !!!!

Go with the latest.
I recommend going with at least T1i as it has video.
But among the ones you mentioned, 450D is better choice in my opinion.
It has few features that 1000D doesn't
The first is spot metering.
2nd is the highlight tone priority function.

Refurbished cameras are okay as long as they are from reputable company with some warranty.
