Default Lens Hood Length

Why is the hood of the Canon 24-70 2.8f so much longer than the lens hood of the Canon 24-105 4.0 lens?

Thanks!

All other things being equal, an f/2.8 lens is more likely to suffer from flare than an f/4.0 lens, and so would require more protection.
