I have a setup witha EOS 20D in a camera stand connected to a computer via USB2. On the computer i am using remote capturing sw to control the camera.

With this setup I want to permanently lockup the mirror. Is this possible? I do not need the viewfinder at all, and I want to reduce wear and vibrations.

I know of no setting to do this, but maybe someone else does.

Neither the 20D nor the 20Da can do that. It sounds like you have a very unusual requirement for a DSLR.

The 20D cannot focus with the mirror up, how do you plan to focus?

The 20D can do mirror lockup prior to a shot, but that resets the mirror.

The 20Da(available in Japan only)can hold the mirror up and shutter open for monochrome output focusing, for the actual shot it closes down and fires like anormal 20D with or without mirror lockup being used.
