The letter I got was that the cost would be $180 plus shipping. The repair letter stated that it would be the minimum to trouble shoot the problem. Additional cost for parts. This was before they would troubleshooot any issues. Whether Canon lowers the cost after a troubleshooting a problem I don't know. However, I would definitely be prepared for the $200. They did charge my card $200+ then fixed the Drebel problem.
It would be nice if they would trouble shoot first and then set a price. That would be preferable since you could decide whether its worth a repair. I do think they have tiered pricing but that may depend on the camera. I do believe I saw that some where but can't remember. DSLRs are probably a little pricier to troubleshoot. As a side note, my local Canon dealer told me that next time I had a problem that he would help get a little better repair pricing. He does a tremendous business with Canonand can probably get better deals.
