I have just bought the Canon 350S digital SLR without the standard lens. I had a 28-210 Voigtlaender lens on my non digital SLR which took amazing photos. Can someone offer advice on the Tamron vs Sigma 18-200 lens or any others you would recommend for around the same price?

I have the Sigma 18-200mm. It is really a great lens, a lot better than the kit lens IMO. But since moving up to the 24-105L IS, the Sigma just sits all alone in his box. But it is a good lens..
