It depends on what you get, my Sigma 70-200 F/2.8 is sharper than my canon was.
Mark1616 i hope you are around over the weekend so we can do a bit of testing

I think you can provide a great insight into this.
Anyway this is my input earlier to the Nikon forum from a Pentaxians.

The pict in my post are far more detailed than that in this thread.

http://www.pbase.com/danieltong/image/74188404/original for original and exif . That was taken in B&H at F3.5

The Sigma non-macro earlier version of it is particularly successful and formidable - and I cannot say it is better than its Canon counterpart - in Pentax mount.

Pentax has something close called FA* (prof grade) 80-200mm F2.8 zoom but that is so rare that it is almost non-existant. The Sigma model for Pentax mount is so popular that it is not available at all both sides of the Atlantic.

Also the Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 has IS or SR in Pentax mount.

I should have bought that in B&H in Mar 06 after trying that out. I did not and that was my loss.

Sigma has very huge sample variations (and Canon also, but with C you have a little better odds).

Anyhow, I was in position to choose between several samples and have chosen exceptional Sigma 70-200 f2.8. In comparasion with Canon 70-200 f2.8L (I had one sample to try) it is way better.

Sigma can be sharp as razor at 200mm f2.8, and Canon also can be very soft at 200mm f2.8L.

Most important thing is to try before buy!
