Would the Tamron lens 70-200 2.8 be comparable to the Canon 70-200 2.8 lens?

The Tamron lens is a lot cheaper, but does it perform like the Canon?

The Tamron lens so far tests out as very sharp - comparable to the Canon.

The lens focus performance, however, is nowhere near the Canon's.

And, build quality is less as well.

This is why the lens is less expensive. Tamron doesn't have an advanced focus motor like Canon's ring USM or Sigma's HSM and they're using more plastic and less metal.

Whether it's a good buy depends on what you want to use it for. Poor choice for sports. But great choice if you can do with slow focus and consumer grade build quality because it's so sharp.
