i see noone mentioned the sigma 70-300mm non is lens
i use for macro and on a tripod and its mag ratio is about 1:2
however no is is tricky in certain situations
however price is good, comes with lens hood and pouch and a 10 yr warranty
does over expose on bright days but can be compenstaed by using proper metering with mf settings and focus
also will fit any canon camera dslr or film
good luck
just my 2 cents worth to look at other options

For longer lenses the IS is a must for me. I have a non-IS lens that is good but only for tripod work.
