OK, thats it, I think I am just going to have to save my money and buy the 70-200L Canon.

Wow, i am all over the place!! From what I read (and what you said), it might be worth the extra couple months saving money...

[edit]: Ah! im so confused... With my basic knowledge, limited skill, maybe I shouldnt spend 550 bucks on a lens, especially considering I am a college student!! But at the same time, i dont want to throw money away by buying a cheaper lens that I am not going to be happy with, and that doesnt do what I want!

Besides not having to upgrade for a long time (the 70-200L F4 is F4 all the way, very nice) Canon 'L' lenses keep their value very well on the used market.

Plus, since the lens is so good, using an extender with it will still result in a very good lens.
