Default Older style FD lenses

Good evening folks;
I have a couple Canon FD older style breech lock lenses for use with my G1. They are not useful now because the oil has stiffened to a point that the floating elements require too much force to move. They are not worth much and I am planning to take them apart to replace the firmed up oil.

What lubricant should I use? Do I need to know anything other than having satisfactory screw drivers, possibly make proper spanner wrenches, and just using care?

How does the optical quality of these older heavier style FD lenses compare with the later FD models without the chrome inside ring for breech lock?
Thanks, Gene
