Default Telephoto Lense for 10d

Iím looking at longer range zoom lenses. I am an amateur at best, and donít have thousands of dollars to spend on the best lenses. I think I have narrowed it down to two lenses. The canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens or the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Zoom Macro Super II.

In reviews it sounds like the sigma has a higher optical quality but is louder and slower when focusing.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

You need to get a Sigma lens with HSM which is the Sigma's ultrasonic version of the USM... and it'll be fast & quiet and also allow you to manually overide the AF full-time
