70-300 is a very good lens for a price. Sharp enough up to 200-250 mm. When I was choosing the telephoto in the economy price range I went with canon 100-300 USM. The only deciding factor was the USM motor, because the quality is pretty much the same at the long end, but actually better on 100-200mm range. After using one lens with USM motor (HSM for Sigmas)any non-usm lens seems just awfully slow and noisy. That being said I think the USM is a must for any lens, especially telephoto and/or when shooting sports/fast action subjects. Just my 2 cents....

Thanks for the reply.I have already ordered the sigma and will play for it abit.I have read about USM motors and the canon 100-300.Unfortunately its alot more expensive than the sigma.And considering i am a novice i'll try and learn abit on the cheap 1st
