just out of curiosity.. has anyone readanything or have any personal experience when comparing these two lenses?

i personally prefer the look and extra zoom range of the latter (24-70), but i have heard that the optical quality is better for the 24-60...

I had the 24-60 for a little less than a month, and ended up returning it.. there just wasn't enough magnification for me at the long end. I did really like the lens because it was just sharp! Since the lenses are so similar in price I would go with the 24-70 (I have heard great things!) unless the 82mm filter scares you away.

The advantages of the 24-60mm are mainly size and weight -> what it loses is the ability in the larger than 1.6x crop camera which the 24-70mm is more suitable for, just check the MTF and notice the big knee on the 24-60 at the periphery of the CMOS sensor...
