I have been thinking about buying canon 200mm f/2.8L lens instead of 70-200 f/4 L.

which would be a better buy - being same cost.

how much is the above two in picture quality comparable.

The zoom 'might' be better actually (source - MTF charts) in term of sharpness!


-> i.e. even @ wide opened the zoom is sharper than the prime when closed down to f/8 except toward the corners... Remember too though that with most digital cameras, such as the 20D, the image sensors end way before 13 so the corners performance are really irrelevant!
