A couple of weeks ago I purchased a new EOS 20d with the 17-85mm zoom. I only just noticed a slight speck of dust/dirt INSIDE the lens. Is this something I should worry about? Will it affect my photos? Any help is appreciated.

This is very common and nothing to worry about. Specks of dust won't affect your images. Enjoy the lens.
