I have the Tamron 70-300 AF Zoom Lens w/ 1:2 Macro for my canon XT. I have been trying to take some bird and football pictures, but it really takes a long time for it to focus and I usually miss the action. I was wondering if I buy a Sigma 70-300 APO Macro SuperII ($189.95) if that lens focuses faster, than my current one. Other lens recommendations would also be appreciated!

Thank you so much for all the help you guys have provided.

It sounds like you may need some ultrasonic lenses either the Canon's USM or the Sigma's HSM - unfortunately they do come with some cost...

i think it's worth it... fast, silent, and ftm... although i hardly use ftm, at least it's fun to turn the ring when I'm idling...:-)

The Sigma 70-300APO DG Macro is a wonderful lens and fantastic value ... but fast focus is not one of it's strong points. Sounds like you need to invest in a USM or HSM powered lens.

I found the new Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 IS to be fast at daylight action focusing. It is USM, although the less valued Micro type. Still, it worked well for my crew racing photos.
