Listed below are the MTF charts for the Canon EF 85 L version I (left) and version II (right).

Is it me, or is version II optically worse off than version I? Despite a faster AF and metering info for flashes, I would be annoyed if a revision was, in any way, inferior to its older model. Granted, the difference is small, and might not even be noticable in real life photography, but I didn't expect the optics to drop after 17 years of version I's release.

May be you should check them with the MTF's of the non-L 85mm f/1.8 as well...

My 2c...
1. Do you need flash with an f/1.2?
2. How fast of an AF do you need for posed "portraits"?
3. If you shoot fast actions @ f/1.2 not much of the "actions" will be in focus!

After years of lens testing, the same old patter. Is this lens better than that lens. Resolution is only one part of a lens, there are many more. One reviewer will say this lens is top rated. Next month another reviewer will say this lens is like the bottom of a beer bottle. Don`t buy blind, try to check one out for yourself I E beg borrow or steal.
