hi guys, I know this is probably a stupid quesion, but I am buying my 1st digital slr soon, and really my only slr experience has been a Nikon lens on a Nikon film slr. But now I am thinking of going the Canon way.

my question is: are all Sigma lenses bette than the EOS 350 kit lens? I am able to get Sigma 18-200 (no IS) for a good price, and I am thinking of getting this, and the EOS body, no kit lens.

Don't have money to buy a new lens every few months, and want one walkaround lens for now, as i do lots of trekking and bulk of many lenses might be an issue.

In a word, No.Some Sigma lenses are better than the kit lens and some are not. Some, like their EX series are alot better, and cost many times more as well. You can read some lens reviews @ http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/index.html
The 18-200mm Sigma is prolly close in quality, but it is definitely more versatile.
