Default S50 indoor Flash and fireworks settings

I'm looking for a definitive setting for indoor flash photography (portraits etc. with fluorescent or incandescent lighting). I've found iso 200 with +1/3 EV is quite good, but would like to know other good settings. The most common problem seems to be overexposed faces on a dark background. Exposure lock on a bright area seems to work as well. I'm using wide angle at 4-8 feet.

Also what is a good setting for fireworks? I haven't been to a show yet, but don't want to be messing around with set-up and miss some good shots.

Thanks in advance
