Default A70 resolution question

My resolution is set to Large (2048X1536) and compression Super Fine. The A70 is reputed to be a 3.2 megapixal camera but the largest file size I've seen from my camera is just barely more than 2 megs. Can anyone speak to this - Is this a setting issue or a camera problem? I've had this camera a few days now - shot about three hundred photos or so. No real complaints thus far.

I believe it is supposed to be 2MB in size. It came with a 16MB card and it can only hold 8 or so at max resolution and max compression according to steve's review of this camera, so i don't think it's a problem with the camera.

in fact, i've had this camera for a couple days, and yea i can only take 8 or so superfine/max resolution. but you know, i might be wrong as well.

oh and another thing is that the a70 can only record JPG images, and since JPEG has the best compression, the pictures are like 2MB....if it was RAW or TIFF, i bet it would be larger.

You're confusing megapixels and megabytes. Remember you're saving your files in a compressed (JPG) file format. The size of the file is also affected by the contents of the picture. If you don't believe this, take a picture of the ocean or desert, then another of some scenery with a lot of leaves and bushes, both at the same resolution and compression. The more complex image will contain more data, won't be as efficiently compressed, thus a larger file.
