I just bought my s3 is and I have been trying to shoot flying pigeons and ducks at the lake. When I used my old Kodak Z740, I could get clear photos with either the landscape or sports mode, as both were set to infinity.

With the Canon, the shots that I first took on Tv, with the shutter at 1/500, were pretty clear and sharp, but not quite as good as the Kodak. I think 1/750 and up would be better. But when I set the camera to sports mode, EVERY shot I took was unfocused and extremely grainy and noisy. Of course, I couldn't tell at the time what was happening. I also had IS set for panning.

Could you explain what I'm doing wrong? I'm beginning to wonder if I should have kept the Kodak.

Thanks in advance.
