I sort of guessed that this may be the case kassandro, although some a710is owners seem to not have the "problem".

However I raised it with Canon UK technical support, who said thatthere IS a fault. Therefore I am sending the camera back for a refund as I have just bought it.

Of course it is quite possible thattheir technical support staffdo not know how their own cameras work!

It is up to other owners whether they accept this problem or "feature"!

I own the A710 myself and I am quite satisfied with this camera. Unfortunately the optical viewfinder shows only a relatively small part of the image, whence it can hardly used to frame the picture. It's for emergency use only and the increased shutter lag shouldn't be a real problem in practice.
