People talk a lot about how it can do wide angle, but, can it possibly be turned off, or will it always be on? Are you able to shoot at the typical kind of angle that most cameras would do? (Say, for instance, the standard shooting with a Canon Powershot SD950 IS) Wide angle sounds nice, I'm not saying it isn't. I'm just wondering if it's forced upon you.

Wide angle isn't an on/off feature. It simply means that the 870is starts at a more "zoomed out" field of view than, say the 850is or most other compact digicams.

The SD870 has the wider angle plus all of the zoom range that the typical, "3x", zoom cameras have, all included in its zoom range.

If you are standing in about the same place as other folksshooting with typical point and shoot zoom cameras, just add a little more zoomon your '870 and you will get the same view.
