I am very interested in the qualities of the G9 as a non-SLR camera but i want to be able to develop monotone prints. is this possible with the software for the G9 or other 'point and shoot' cameras?

Bearfarm, I am not really sure if I understood your post correctly. If you want monotone shots you can always set it in the picture option in the G9 camera itself. if you are talking about images that were taken in color to be converted to mono then you can use any post processing software like Photoshop or Paintpro to convert the colored image into a monotone one before printing.
